Master Plan

Our next assignment was to design a master plan for an extension campus to the existing primary school in Torquay. At the moment there in a primary school with years 7 to 9 being constituted next door. Our task was to design an adjacent campus facilitating years 10-12. We focused our master plan on the integration of landscape and architecture creating outdoor spaces flowing into and from rooms. We also wanted to have a smooth transition from the existing campuses to our campus. Also protecting adjacent buildings through the meas of blocking out noise without disrupting there nor then light, this is proposed to be done through landscaping and selective vegetation. Through our design we wanted to try to block out cold winter winds from the south west and filtering northern summer winds. We did extensive research into the sub-climate of the site and into indigenous planting and what uses certain vegetation can have on a design. The following photos are from our presentation.

From our presentation we realised that further development of traffic control was needed to solve the traffic congestion problem along the access road to the schools. But overall we had a solid concept that would be suited to Torquay.
